Is Novig legal? Novig’s sports exchange has been a CFTC-designated contract market since June 16, 2026, the same federal licence Kalshi holds. It launched sports contracts nationally on August 4, 2026, is open to users aged 21 and over, and blocks Arizona, Michigan and Nevada. Like every sports prediction market, it’s fighting several states in court. This guide explains where things stand.
Where Novig is available
Novig’s help centre says it’s available nationwide except Arizona, Nevada and Michigan, and requires users to be 21 or older. It offers sports contracts only.
Novig’s lawsuits
Rather than wait for states to act, Novig sued several of them in federal court, arguing that federal commodities law stops them from applying state gambling laws to its contracts:
| State | Filed | Status when checked |
|---|---|---|
| New York | August 5, 2026 | No ruling found |
| Massachusetts, New Mexico, Washington | August 2026 (first week of launch) | Washington moved to dismiss in October 2026; no rulings found |
| Wisconsin | August 14, 2026 | No ruling found |
The outcome of these cases is tied to the wider split among federal appeals courts over whether sports event contracts are federally regulated or state-regulated bets. See Is Kalshi legal?
Novig vs other platforms
- Same licence as Kalshi, but sports only and 21+, where Kalshi admits 18-year-olds and lists every category.
- Excluded states: Novig’s three exclusions are set by Novig itself; other states may still act against it.
