How to read oil odds
- Touch vs close. “Hit” markets pay if a level is reached at any moment; date markets look only at one price at one time. A spike can trigger a “hit” without changing where oil ends the day.
- Which contract. Markets usually follow the front-month futures contract, which rolls to the next month a few days before expiry. Check each market’s rules for the exact source and time.
- What moves it. Supply disruptions, OPEC+ decisions, inventories data and the US dollar. Geopolitical news can move oil, and these markets, within minutes.
